Born in a family of musicians in August 1987, Vinayak Gupta always showed great promise as a musician in the making. His tender fingers moved like magic on his small casio-a prized possession presented to him by his grandfather. He received his first lessons in instrumental music from his father. Vinayak did his primary schooling from St. Mary’s, Kasauli (Himachal Pradesh) where his music teacher, Mr. Ramachandran encouraged him in all the different genres of instrumental music. His tiny legs could barely reach the pedals of the big drum kit that the music department possessed-nevertheless, he proved to be the attention of the school orchestra as their little ‘hero’ drummer as well.
He was always ‘full of beans’ as Carver Sir aptly commented in their first meeting when he was brought to St. Stephen’s at the age of fourteen. His talent soared to great heights under the love, encouragement and guidance that he received in the school under Carver Sir.
He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Political Science from Hindu College, Delhi University. His creativity surfaced marvelously as he composed some beautiful compositions with his mother and musician friend, Jyotish Balakrishnan. He also composed a few jingles and has to his credit the signature tune for Big FM in the year 2009. His cousin, Arjun Gupta, another great pianist, helped him in enhancing his piano skills. He received a scholarship in the University of Boston, U.S.A., where he studied some fine nuances of western music.
His hard work has helped him reach a successful point in his career. His talent was recognized by Dr. Palash Sen, the band leader of the popular Rock Band-Euphoria.
Vinayak has helped the band develop a new perspective with his innovative skills in the capacity of their keyboard player and continues to weave magic with them.
